Serves Sachs Harbour, the only permanent settlement on Banks Island and the northernmost community in the Northwest Territories (pop. ~104, over 90% Inuvialuit); named for David Nasogaluak Jr. Saaryuaq, a respected local Inuvialuit elder and community leader. Aklak Air, an Inuvialuit-owned carrier that operates aircraft through a partnership with Kenn Borek Air, links the strip to Inuvik and Ulukhaktok; the community grew from a 1929 Arctic-fox trapping camp (once the 'White Fox Capital') and is now known for the largest commercial muskox harvest in Canada, with Aulavik National Park on Banks Island's north end (headquartered here) reachable only by charter air from here.
