Wemindji is a James Bay Cree community on Paint Hills Bay at the mouth of the Maquatua River; the gravel-strip airport is served by Air Creebec with scheduled flights linking Wemindji to Chisasibi, Eastmain, Waskaganish, Val-d'Or and Montreal. Road access to the James Bay Road has existed since 1995, but air remains the primary year-round link for medevac and cargo; no published annual passenger totals, though Transport Canada recorded 1,605 aircraft movements in 2018.

Air Creebec is the only scheduled carrier operating at Wemindji Airport (YNC), flying a multi-stop Dash 8 combi route linking Chisasibi, Wemindji, Eastmain, Waskaganish, Nemaska, Chibougamau and Montreal-St-Hubert (YHU); as the sole operator at this remote James Bay Cree community airstrip with no independent FBO or third-party ground handling company present, Air Creebec self-handles its own ramp and passenger ground operations here.
