Kimmirut (formerly Lake Harbour) is a small Inuit hamlet on the south coast of Baffin Island beside Katannilik Territorial Park; the airport is Kenn Borek Air-operated Twin Otter service under the Canadian North brand, flying roughly four times weekly on the ~30-minute hop to the regional hub at Iqaluit. As with all Nunavut communities, there is no road access, so the gravel airstrip is the community's year-round lifeline for passengers, mail, and freight; the runway is unusually oriented on magnetic (not true) headings and is one of the shortest in the territory, restricting operations to Twin Otter-class aircraft.
