Fly-in-only Inuit community on the Nunatsiavut north coast of Labrador (pop. ~1,200, 2021 census 1,204); Air Borealis (a PAL Airlines subsidiary) flies 19-seat DHC-6 Twin Otters roughly 14 times/week connecting Nain to the Goose Bay hub and neighbouring coastal communities (Hopedale, Natuashish, Makkovik, Postville, Rigolet), also handling medevac/schedevac transport. The gravel runway, built in the early 1980s on the shore of Unity Bay, erodes from wave and sea-ice action and cannot accept aircraft larger than a Twin Otter; a replacement 'New Nain Airport' (1,830 m gravel runway, new terminal, 13 km access road, year-round 24/7 operation) is in environmental review/planning as of 2025-2026 but is not yet built. pax.annual is an estimate derived from published flight frequency, not an official count — no official annual passenger total for Nain is published by Statistics Canada or the provincial government.
