Edward Bodden Airfield LYB / MWCL

Edward Bodden Airfield is the sole air gateway to Little Cayman, government-owned and operated by the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA). It is a day-VFR-only grass airstrip with a stabilized centerline and no on-site fuel, customs, immigration, ATC, or full-time AIS, so it is not one of the Cayman Islands' two international aerodromes (Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac). It operates under a Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) airworthiness exemption limited to Cayman Airways Express' DHC-6-300 Twin Otters, first granted in 2003 and renewed since, with traffic coordinated by radio through Charles Kirkconnell International on Cayman Brac. The published runway length of 935 m (3,068 ft) includes a 180 m (590 ft) displaced threshold on Runway 28, leaving about 755 m (2,477 ft) of usable landing distance between the marked thresholds; the strip parallels the south shoreline with approaches and departures over water, and a public road with power-line poles runs close along its southern edge. After a long-running debate over relocating Little Cayman's airport, the Cayman Islands Government confirmed in April 2026 that Edward Bodden Airfield will stay at its current site: CAACI will keep extending the exemption while the runway is widened (not lengthened) and the field is fenced, bringing it up to ICAO safety standards, rather than building a new airport elsewhere. CIAA publishes separate passenger statistics for Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac but not for Little Cayman, so no verified annual pax figure is available.
