Civil and scheduled passenger service has been indefinitely suspended since 24 February 2022 under Russian Ministry of Defence restrictions covering airports near the Ukrainian border; the airfield has since been converted into a forward operating base for Russian Aerospace Forces helicopter units. Belgorod city and its airfield have been repeatedly hit by cross-border drone and missile strikes through 2026, including a reported missile strike on the airport grounds in July 2026 that started a fire. Rosaviatsia named Belgorod among airports 'ready to reopen' pending Defence Ministry sign-off, as reported in November 2025, but no reopening date had been set as of September 2026, so the 582,531-passenger figure from 2021 is the last full pre-closure year and should be read as historical rather than current traffic.
