Kugluktuk (formerly Coppermine until 1996) is Nunavut's westernmost community, an Inuinnaqtun-speaking Copper Inuit (Inuinnait) hamlet at the mouth of the Coppermine River in the Kitikmeot region; the DEW Line sites at Lady Franklin Point and Bernard Harbour across Coronation Gulf brought early wage employment in the 1950s. The single gravel strip is served by Canadian North (ATR 42/72) linking Yellowknife, Cambridge Bay and Ulukhaktok, plus cargo service; Government of Nunavut CARS staff supply weather/traffic advisories in lieu of a control tower.
