A roughly 24,000 sqm, four-floor terminal (four jet bridges, about 1,000 pax/hour design capacity) has been under construction since 2023 under new majority owner ABS ('Аэропорты Большой Страны'); the operator's own site still describes the project as underway, and its stated November 2025 commissioning date appears to have slipped, with no opening announcement found as of September 2026 — treat the new terminal as not yet confirmed open. International flights operate (Almaty from Jul 2026, Sharm El-Sheikh via AirCairo from Aug 2026), consistent with customs/immigration on site. As with other Russian airports since Feb 2022, Western fuel majors, ground handlers, caterers and MRO providers have exited, and EU/UK/US airspace and overflight restrictions (plus Kaliningrad-transit limits) apply to Russian carriers generally. Annual traffic is reported inconsistently: the operator's own site claims 'more than 950,000 passengers annually' (undated), Wikipedia cites a higher 2023 figure near 1.04 million, and per expert.ru's 2025 ranking Orenburg dropped OUT of Russia's million-passenger-airport tier in 2025 even as Blagoveshchensk entered it — so the pax figure here (950,000 / 2025) is approximate pending a confirmed Rosaviatsia release.
