Novy Urengoy Airport NUX / USMU

The new 19,000 sq m terminal with three jet bridges (design capacity about 840 pax/hour) replaced the Soviet-era building in December 2022. Traffic first passed 1 million annual passengers in 2022 (1,031,640, per the airport's own 16 Jan 2023 release, +7.9% year on year) and grew a further roughly 2% in 2023 to about 1.055 million (Interfax-Russia); Traffic is driven almost entirely by Gazprom-linked rotational-worker charter flows to Moscow and other Russian hubs. The airport remains domestic-only under its masterplan, which ties any international sector/terminal expansion to a 1.45 million annual-passenger threshold not yet reached; treat any international-capable status as aspirational, not current. There is no ILS at NUX — approach lighting is limited to OVI-1 high-intensity runway lights from both directions, per the airport's own published aerodrome characteristics. As with other Russian civil airports, Western fuel majors, handlers and caterers exited after February 2022; Unlike airports in southern Russia, NUX has not been affected by the war-related NOTAM airspace closures in force since February 2022, and airport-published news confirms routine operations continuing into 2026.
