Operating hoursNot H24 - ATS, customs/immigration, health and sanitation, AIS briefing, fuelling, handling, security and de-icing 0600-1800 local daily; AD administration MON-FRI 0500-1400 local; ILS RWY 02 operative 0600-1800 in step with ATS hours; the current AIP publishes no PPR provision for movements outside these hours
TerminalsSingle passenger terminal; a $7.5M 2021 modernization (about $6M runway resurfacing, about $1.5M new arrivals hall, completed 16 September 2021) raised stated annual capacity from about 250,000 to about 700,000 pax; duty-free retail airside; AIP AD 2.4 lists no dedicated cargo facility
Runways (1)
  • 02/20 · 3,220 m / 10,564 ft · 45 m wide · Asphalt/Concrete (PCN 66/F/C/W/T) · ILS ILS CAT I (RWY 02 only, localizer 110.300 MHz, operative 0600-1800); RWY 20 has PAPI only, no ILS
Armenia's second civil gateway (Shirak Province, northern Armenia) and a joint civil/military field - an Armenian Air Force base - 5 km southeast of Gyumri; commonly marketed as 'Shirak International Airport' though the AIP and most reference sources carry the plain name 'Shirak Airport'. The single 3,220 m runway (02/20) carries CAT I ILS on RWY 02 only, and most services run 0600-1800 local rather than H24 with no published outside-hours PPR route, so off-hours movements are effectively unaccommodated. A 2021 modernization resurfaced the runway and opened a new arrivals hall, nearly tripling stated terminal capacity to about 700,000 pax/yr. Current scheduled service is thin and Russia/CIS-leaning (Aeroflot, Pobeda, FlyOne) plus a Wizz Air Larnaca link launched 30 September 2025; the 2025 passenger total of 138,399 (+32.4% y/y) still reflects a small regional airport rather than a mainline international gateway.
