Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport JIB / HDAM

Djibouti's only major international gateway and home base of flag carrier Air Djibouti; the sole runway (extended to 3150m in 1975 to take Boeing 747s) is shared with Camp Lemonnier, the largest US military base in Africa (permanent since 2002) plus rotating French, Japanese and Italian detachments, so roughly three-quarters of movements are reported as military rather than civil. China's PLA Support Base (opened 2017, its first overseas base) sits a few kilometers away near Doraleh port, not on the airfield itself, but PLA fixed-wing traffic is understood to route through HDAM since it is the only capable airfield in the area. The 400,000 pax figure is a 2024 estimate, not a confirmed AID annual-report number; the last precisely sourced figures available are 176,861 (2010) and 258,877 (2009), with modest single-digit annual growth reported since (e.g. ~2.5% YoY cited for 2023) but no firm recent total confirmed.
