Currently the operational airport under the HET/ZBHH codes — opened 1958, Inner Mongolia's original air hub, now running well past its 2007 terminal's ~3M-passenger design capacity (12.7M handled in 2025). A new 4F-class replacement, Hohhot Shengle International Airport, is under construction ~38 km south in Horinger County and will inherit the HET/ZBHH codes when Baita closes. That transfer was originally scheduled for 27 Nov 2025 but has been pushed back — an 11 Apr 2026 correction to Shengle's record notes the opening moved to 'this year, not 2025' — and had still not happened as of early August 2026: Baita's own route list kept growing in the interim (Vladivostok/VVO service launched 29 Jul 2026). Shengle is designed for two runways (3,800 m Class 4F + 3,400 m Class 4E) and a 260,000 sqm terminal targeting 28M annual passengers and 320,000 t of cargo by 2030. Re-verify this record once the Shengle transfer is confirmed complete — name, coordinates, elevation, runways and terminal facts will all need to switch to the new airport's specs at that point.
