Gisborne Airport GIS / NZGS
Gisborne · New Zealand · Eastland Group (operator under a 15-year lease since 1 April 2005, renewable for a further 15 years; airport owned by Gisborne District Council, with Trust Tairawhiti as sole shareholder of Eastland Group. A new 4-member board for Eastland Port and Gisborne Airport was announced 10 Jul 2024 under a governance restructure agreed with Trust Tairawhiti in May 2024. Note: Eastland Group's own website now displays a placeholder stating the company is 'now Tairawhiti Investments Limited' - an apparent rebrand of unconfirmed date - but gisborneairport.nz itself, including content as recent as Jul 2025, still operates entirely under the Eastland Group name, so that name is retained here as the current operating identity pending confirmation the rename has taken effect airport-side.)

Airport contact
Domestic-only regional airport (Air NZ to Auckland/Wellington; Sunair to Hamilton/Napier/Tauranga/Whakatane) - no international routes, customs, or immigration facilities. The Palmerston North-Gisborne railway line does still physically cross the main runway (14R/32L) - one of very few such crossings anywhere - but the Wairoa-to-Gisborne section of that line has been inoperative since 2012 due to slips and washouts (not restored after Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023 either), so no trains currently run across the crossing; it is a structural rather than an operationally-active feature today. No ILS - approaches are RNAV/visual only per available sources. Pax figure of 210,000 is Eastland Group's own Aug 2023 published figure for FY2023, described as a new record at the time; a Jul 2025 airport news item cites a further 7 percent increase in passengers since the 2020 terminal opened, but no newer absolute total was located, so treat 210,000/2023 as a floor rather than the current count. ATS hours are sourced from a 2020 AIP supplement and should be reverified against current NZ AIP/NOTAM before ops - no more current authoritative source could be reached. No published main-line airport switchboard number was found (only the Eastland Group airport email and Air NZ's national reservations line), so contact.phone is left null rather than guessed.

Ground handling
Available
Air New Zealand
Self-handled, Air New Zealand. Air NZ is the airport's dominant scheduled carrier (50-seat Q300 mainline services to Auckland and Wellington) and operates its own check-in, ramp and baggage functions at Gisborne; the airline maintains a dedicated station baggage contact (••• per the airport's own baggage page) rather than routing through a named third-party handler. No separate contracted ground-handling company was identified for GIS, consistent with Air NZ's standard self-handling model at similarly sized North Island regional ports. Note: gisborneairport.co.nz was unreachable during this verification pass (connection refused), so the dedicated baggage email could not be freshly re-confirmed; nothing found contradicts it.

GOfuel
Operates an unmanned, 24/7 swipe-card GOfuel "Aero Stop" refuelling site at Gisborne Airport (listed by GOfuel at S 38 39.768 E 177 59.024), supplying both Jet A-1 and Avgas. Access requires a GOfuel Aviation fuel card; GOfuel is both the fuel supplier and the de facto into-plane point (self-service/unmanned, no separate into-plane agent documented). Toll-free contact number ••• independently reconfirmed directly against GOfuel's own website; the Gisborne-specific site listing (map/coordinates) is JS-rendered and did not resurface but nothing found contradicts it. · 24/7 unmanned, card access

Air New Zealand
No dedicated third-party aircraft-cleaning contractor found for Gisborne. Cabin cleaning during Air New Zealand's quick domestic turnarounds is presumed performed in-house by the same self-handling station staff, as is standard practice at comparable NZ regional ports, but this is not separately documented and should be treated as unconfirmed.

Air New Zealand
Gisborne is not one of the six Avsec-designated airports (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Invercargill); Avsec screening applies to international flights and domestic services on 90+ seat aircraft, and Air NZ's Q300 (50-seat) service at GIS falls below that threshold. Under CAA Rule Part 108, an airline must run its own Air Operator Security Programme covering domestic flights at non-Avsec ports, implying Air New Zealand handles any required security/screening procedures at GIS in-house rather than via a separate contracted security firm; no dedicated third-party security contractor was identified.
