On 2026-06-23 the airport commissioned a new second runway (04/22, 3,600m, non-parallel to the original 03/21, which is 3,609m), lifting its flight-area reference code from 4E to 4F - Fujian's first and China's 17th 4F-class airport - the same day Fuzhou's first non-stop European route (Xiamen Airlines MF813/4 to Amsterdam, Boeing 787, twice weekly from 2026-06-27) launched. A second terminal (T2, ~255,000 sqm) finished construction in April 2026 and is being commissioned for opening later in 2026, part of a Phase II build-out targeting 36 million annual passengers and 450,000 tonnes of cargo capacity. 2025 traffic was a record 16.12 million passengers (+5.3% YoY); the airport also runs a Comprehensive Bonded Zone (Phase I passed inspection April 2025) supporting cross-border e-commerce, cold-chain and hazmat cargo.
