Reopened to commercial traffic on 18 December 2024 after the fall of the Assad government closed the field, then resumed international service on 7 January 2025 with a Qatar Airways flight from Doha; Turkish Airlines, Royal Jordanian (from 31 Jan 2025), Kuwait Airways, Etihad, Jazeera Airways, Air Arabia (Abu Dhabi/Sharjah), Flydubai and Syrian Air have since restored or added routes — Emirates has not resumed Damascus service as of this record. Recovery remains partial and the pax figure should be read as still-depressed: Syrian GACA/Syria Report data show roughly 174,000 passengers in July 2025 and just over 160,000 in October 2025, well below the airport's pre-war and pre-2011 volumes (5.5M in 2010), so the 1,392,699 full-year-2025 total reflects a war-scarred network still rebuilding capacity, ILS/nav-aid status, and schedule reliability. No ILS category could be independently confirmed for either runway given years of conflict damage and repeated closures (including Israeli strikes in 2022-2023) — treat approach-aid data as unverified and confirm via current NOTAMs. Turkey installed a new radar system at the airport in January 2026 as part of ongoing infrastructure modernization, underscoring that recovery is still active and airspace/ops status should be reconfirmed close to any planning date.
