Long known as 'Aeropuerto Nacional,' it was upgraded to genuine international port-of-entry status only by a September 2025 DOF decree, with migration, customs, health and phytosanitary authorities newly assigned to the field; no scheduled international flights had launched as of mid-2026, and a MXN 327-million terminal expansion is underway to support the new status. Operational control passed from ASA to the Navy-run Grupo Aeroportuario Marina in 2024-2025, so legacy directories still listing ASA as operator/contact are outdated.
