Despite sometimes being marketed as 'international,' the currently operating CBJ/MDCR strip is a small, daylight-only, tower-less domestic airfield under Dominican Air Force control — no customs, no fuel services documented, no published passenger stats (twice-weekly 19-seat Air Century service from La Isabela began Nov 2022, load unpublished). This is NOT the same facility as the new Aeropuerto Internacional Cabo Rojo mega-project (3.1km runway, ACCIONA-built) under construction at a separate site in Pedernales province, targeted to open around 2027 with genuine international/customs capability — until then CBJ remains a minimal-infrastructure domestic outpost near the Haiti border.
